How to choose a BJJ gi manufacturer.
A practical checklist for evaluating a gi manufacturer before you commit — from weave and MOQ to verification and communication.

Choosing a BJJ gi manufacturer comes down to a few things you can actually check: the weaves and construction they offer, their MOQ and sample terms, whether you can verify the business, and how clearly they communicate before you have even paid.

Check what they can actually make
Ask which weaves and GSM ranges they produce and whether construction detail — collar, reinforcement, stitching — is built to your spec or fixed. A manufacturer should talk in specifications, not just photos.
If they cannot describe their construction clearly, that is a signal.
MOQ, samples and verification
Confirm the real MOQ and whether you can order a sample before bulk — approving a physical sample is the single biggest protection for an overseas buyer. Ask how they handle verification: registration, a factory video, references.
A manufacturer confident in their work will invite you to check them.
Communication and terms
Response time and clarity matter across a distance. Confirm incoterms (DDP keeps landed cost clear), lead times and how issues are handled. Vague answers before an order rarely improve after it.
Start with one product to test quality and communication before scaling.
Supplier comparison scorecard
Compare suppliers on the evidence you can verify: whether the sample matches the written specification, whether measurements are recorded, how changes are controlled, what QC is documented, what the MOQ actually applies to, and whether labels/packaging are included in the same approval process.
A lower price is not automatically a lower total sourcing cost if the supplier cannot repeat the approved fit, fabric, branding and packing. Keep the approved sample and written specification as the reference when comparing quotations.
Questions to ask every BJJ gi manufacturer
- Do you make the gis in your own factory, or pass orders to another unit?
- Which weaves do you produce, and what fabric weight will my gi be?
- What is the minimum per design and color, and can sizes be mixed?
- How long does a sample take, what does it cost, and is the fee credited against bulk?
- What are your bulk lead time, payment terms and shipping terms (for example DDP)?
- Which QC checks happen during and after production?
- Will you sign an NDA, and do my designs stay exclusive?
- Can I verify your registration and see the factory on a video call?

Gi manufacturer selection: frequently asked questions
What is the most important thing to check?
Whether you can approve a physical sample before bulk — it protects you more than any claim.
How do I verify an overseas factory?
Ask for registration numbers, a live video walk of the floor, and a sample order before committing to bulk.
Should I start with a large order?
No. Start with one product to test quality and communication, then scale.
