Women’s Muay Thai Shorts on a Female-Cut Pattern

Most “women’s” Muay Thai shorts are a men’s pattern in a smaller size. The difference that matters is the rise and the hip, not the waist measurement on the label.

Combatwear Factory manufactures women’s Muay Thai shorts on a female-fit pattern. Buyers define rise, waist, hip and leg proportions, waistband, fabric, artwork, decoration, labels and packing; the sample is checked for mobility and fit before bulk.

Why a scaled-down men’s short does not fit

Grading a men’s pattern down shrinks every measurement by the same ratio. But the waist-to-hip difference is not the same between blocks, so a short that fits the hip is loose at the waist and one that fits the waist does not close over the hip.

The second problem is rise. A men’s rise on a shorter torso puts the waistband above the natural waist, where it folds over during clinch work. A proper women’s block shortens the rise and moves the side cut down with it.

Satin or microfibre

Satin is the traditional Muay Thai finish: it glides, it looks right in the ring, and it photographs well. It also snags and it holds sweat.

Nylon or polyester microfibre is tougher, dries faster and takes sublimated artwork far better. For a gym kitting out a class, microfibre usually makes more sense; for fight-night shorts, satin still wins.

Producing a women’s range properly

The honest shortcut most suppliers take is to run the men’s pattern in smaller sizes and call it a women’s line. If you want a range people reorder, the women’s block has to be graded on its own from a fit sample on an actual wearer.

Artwork on satin is embroidery or appliqué; satin does not hold sublimation. If your design needs full-colour print, the base fabric has to be microfibre. Decide that before the sample, because it determines the whole construction.

What changes on a women’s pattern

What changes on a women’s pattern
Rise Shorter front rise than the men’s block. A men’s rise sits above the natural waist and bunches.
Hip More room hip-to-waist ratio. Sizing a men’s short up to fit the hip leaves the waistband loose.
Leg length Shorter inseam so the high side cut sits at the right point on the thigh, not halfway up it.
Waistband Wide elastic with an internal cord. A wide band stays put through kicks better than a narrow one.
Side cut High enough for full kick range, cut to the shorter leg length rather than scaled down from the men’s.
Fabric Satin for the traditional finish and glide; nylon or poly microfibre for durability and faster drying.
Sizing Usually XS–L against a waist range. Brands run small — buy by the measurement, not the letter.

Choosing women’s Muay Thai shorts: satin vs microfibre

Whether you are buying Muay Thai shorts for women or for girls who train, fabric is the first decision, because it determines how the artwork can be applied.

Satin Nylon / poly microfibre
Look and feel Traditional finish and glide Durable, faster-drying fabric
Best for Fight shorts and a classic look Durability and faster drying in regular training
Artwork Embroidery or appliqué; satin does not hold sublimation Full-colour sublimated artwork

Sizing tip: measure the waist and buy against the brand’s waist range rather than the letter size. Women’s shorts usually run XS–L and commonly come up small.

Women’s Muay Thai shorts: frequently asked questions

Are women’s Muay Thai shorts different from men’s?

Yes, on a properly made pair: shorter rise, more hip room relative to waist, and a shorter inseam so the high side cut sits correctly. Many brands simply run the men’s pattern smaller, which fits badly.

What size Muay Thai shorts should I buy?

Buy by the waist measurement, not the letter. Muay Thai shorts commonly run small, and letter sizing is inconsistent between brands.

Why are Muay Thai shorts so wide and short?

The wide leg and high side cut allow a full, unrestricted kick. A narrower short restricts the hip at the top of the kick.

Satin or microfibre for Muay Thai shorts?

Satin for the traditional look and glide, especially for fight shorts. Microfibre for durability, faster drying and full-colour sublimated artwork.

Can I get custom women’s Muay Thai shorts for my gym?

Yes. Tell us satin or microfibre, your artwork, and the size range you need. Satin takes embroidery and appliqué; sublimation needs a microfibre base.

How should women’s Muay Thai shorts fit?

The rise should sit at the natural waist rather than above it, the hip should have room without the waistband going loose, and the high side cut should sit at the right point on the thigh. A wide elastic waistband with an internal cord stays put through kicks.

Are Muay Thai shorts for girls different from adult women’s shorts?

Fit them the same way: buy by the waist measurement, not the letter, and choose satin or microfibre based on how the shorts will be used and decorated.
