Get the cut right first

Send a reference pair where you can. Most gyms already have a short their members like, and matching it removes a sampling round.
Waistband and fastening
Elastic, drawcord, a wide Thai-style band or a competition waistband all behave differently under a body shot and a kick. Say which your range uses and how high it should sit.
If the shorts are for competition, send the ruleset with your brief so the waistband and length are built to it.
Fabric and panels
Describe how the short should move and how hard it will be trained in. Satin reads traditional, a performance base handles volume training better.
Panel layout affects both the artwork and the stretch, so send your design with the panel breaks marked if you already have them.
Artwork and branding
Provide front, back and side artwork with logos and wording identified, and note anything that must align across a panel break.
